About Me
I am excited to start teaching and working at Alpine Academy this year! I look forward to building relationships and contributing to the positive and supportive community of students, parents, and staff.
I was born and raised on the south shore of Lake Tahoe, Nevada. I went to a small public high school very similar to Alpine, so I am familiar with the benefits and disadvantages of a small school environment. Though there can be disadvantages, I am excited to be a part of a small high school community again as an educator and look forward to all the opportunities it can provide students. I received my B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University, and in June 2016 my husband and I moved back to Sparks for his work at Tesla. After spending 4 years experiencing life as as engineering student and watching others go through it as well, I developed a passion for secondary education. I felt a strong desire to help students better prepare for learning at the university and career level, especially by introducing students to engineering before they start college. There are many useful skills learned from the study of engineering and design thinking, and they can be applied in a multitude of ways beyond careers in a STEM field. My hope is to help students "learn how to learn" in the context of high school math and science classes to better equip them to solve problems as they pursue their own passions. I want to empower students to build confidence in what they already know and be successful in applying that knowledge to learn new things. |
My Passions |
As a mechanical engineer, I am passionate about designing assistive technology, products that help people with disabilities increase their independence and improve their quality of life. I spent time working for a small company in Minden, NV that specialized in this, and I hope I can weave this passion into my career as an educator.
As an educator, I am passionate about inquiry-based, hands-on learning that gives students the chance to really engage with the material. I also hope to build in opportunities for service learning, where students can apply what they learn in the classroom to real life situations in their own communities. |
Things I Love |
Outside of my academic and career passions, I love music, being active and outdoors, and cooking. I play violin and guitar, I sing, and I'm hoping to learn piano. I love volleyball, softball, and basketball, but most days you will find me out running. My husband and I love hiking, camping, and just being outdoors. I am also a follower of Jesus, my Lord and Savior.
